Langenhagen/Germany, September 8th, 2014The CSR Report 2014 introduces the new Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2016. The three-year action plan is based on Eco Vision 2050, Konica Minolta’s long-term environmental vision, and sets specific goals for the target year of fiscal 2016. The company is determined to create environmental innovation at each stage in its business processes, from product development to procurement, production, distribution, sales and service, and collection and recycling. This effort is designed to help reduce environmental impact and increase corporate value – this goal is measured for the first time in the company’s medium-term environmental plan. With the concept of pursuing both the resolution of environmental challenges and enhancing corporate competitiveness, the Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2016 has three important themes: Green Products (planning and development), Green Factories (procurement and production) and Green Marketing (distribution, sales and service, and collection and recycling).Furthermore, the CSR Report 2014 shows again that Konica Minolta has been making progress in decreasing environmental impact and aiming its global target of reducing CO2 emissions throughout the product life cycle by 80% till 2050, compared to fiscal 2005 levels. Efforts in both reduction of environmental impact and growth of corporate value have been extended beyond the Konica Minolta Group into collaboration with its upstream suppliers. The company has been driving initiatives to pursue cost cutting and reduction of carbon emissions at local suppliers by turning its environmental expertise into cooperative work with suppliers and helping them improve their production process. Though these initiatives have mainly focused on improvement in quality and productivity and cost reduction, they are quite helpful in cutting down materials and energy consumption and, consequently, lowering environmental impact. In fiscal 2013, these efforts resulted in a total of nearly 1,800 tons of CO2 reduction for the year. Besides, CSR Report 2014 unveils calculation of the entire carbon emissions associated with the Konica Minolta Group’s activities across its entire supply chain, from upstream to downstream of its operations. The calculation showed that CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain were approximately 1.4 million tons, which represents a decrease of 6.8% from fiscal
2012.*Having launched its new medium-term business plan “TRANSFORM 2016” at the start of fiscal 2014, Konica Minolta is transforming its business in each and every sector of the business domains by focusing thoroughly on customer-centric ideas.
