Konica Minolta Achieves Goal of Sourcing 100% Renewable Electricity in Its MFP Production Site in China

| 15 April 2019

Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) today announced that one of its MFP production sites in China, Konica Minolta Business Technologies (DONGGUAN) Co., Ltd. (BMDG) in Guangdong province, has achieved its goal of procuring 100% of the electricity it uses from renewable sources.

A manufacturer of Konica Minolta's main products, multi-functional peripherals (MFPs) and digital printing systems, BMDG was certified as a Clean Production Company by Dongguan City in 2011, and as a five-star company in the Green Supply Chain Assessment in 2017, making the company a leader in environmental stewardship in China. BMDG installed a solar power generation system, covering an area of 25,000 m2 and with a generating capacity of 1.8 MW, in November 2017, enabling the company to procure nearly 15%[1] of its electricity requirement from solar power. In January 2019, BMDG shifted to green power certified[2] sources to meet the rest of its electricity needs, thus procuring 100% of its electricity from renewable sources.

Starting from production sites such as BMDG, Konica Minolta will step up efforts to procure more electricity from renewable sources by taking action to achieve 100% renewable electricity in its bases around the world in line with local conditions.

BMDG's Efforts to Achieve Carbon Minus Status

Under its Eco Vision 2050, Konica Minolta has been promoting the Carbon Minus concept, involving external stakeholders in its environmental efforts to reduce CO2 emissions by more than is emitted from its products throughout their lifecycles. BMDG, in addition to encouraging eco-friendly practices in-house, endeavors to share its environmental improvement measures with suppliers and customers through factory tours and environmental seminars, while visiting the factories of its suppliers to discuss measures to reduce environmental burdens together and help them implement the measures. In doing so, BMDG contributes to reducing CO2 emissions both internally and externally.
