Collaboration becomes digital

Although the Corona pandemic was a true digitalisation accelerator, resulting in the spread of virtual teams in particular, the trend towards this was actually already seen before the pandemic. Indeed, the percentage of total working time that full-time office workers spend in virtual or digital collaboration has doubled in less than a decade, from a mere 7% in 2013 to 14% in 2019. Another study saw a 25% growth between 2010 and 2018. According to a 2020 study by researchers from Vermont, USA, 64% of organisations now say they are likely to permanently shift to virtual teamwork because of Covid-19.
