A sustainable opportunity - Konica Minolta cancelled over 2 million kg CO2 since 2015

| 23 August 2017

Since starting the “enabling carbon neutrality” programme two years ago, Konica Minolta cancelled a total of 2,629,660 kg CO2. This figure includes customers from more than six countries who have bought the service, several events such as CeBIT that were offset as well as internal compensation. Konica Minolta continues to work on further reducing its carbon footprint and to enable its customers to profit from this opportunity.

Konica Minolta is one of the pioneers when it comes to sustainable engagement in the printing industry. Since July 2015, Konica Minolta has been offering to its customers in all of Europe the opportunity to minimise their impact on the environment and help prevent global warming, through carbon neutral printing. Over the last few years, the environmental impact of business operations has become increasingly important for the image of modern businesses. With the “enabling carbon neutrality” service, Konica Minolta has reached out to address these developments and provides a transparent and easy solution. The programme is available for Konica Minolta office and toner-based production systems and offers customers an end-to-end solution in climate protection through the ability to identify their footprint, reduce and offset it all at the same time.

In collaboration with the international climate protection expert ClimatePartner, Konica Minolta currently supports a Gold Standard certified carbon offset project for Wind Energy in Vader Piet, Aruba, in the Caribbean Sea. By utilising the wind resources of the island, the project reduces emissions of greenhouse gases by approx. 152,783 t CO2 per year and is a best practice example in renewable energy production for the whole Caribbean. Besides this carbon offsetting effect, the support of the Wind Energy project in Aruba also promotes positive effects on a local level, such as creating employment opportunities, modernisation of infrastructure and an improved air quality.

For Konica Minolta customers, it is easy to implement the enabling carbon neutrality programme for climate neutral printing. Customers can print with their Konica Minolta systems as usual, while the total emissions over the lifetime of each device will be calculated and offset through certified carbon offset projects. The offsetting of all CO2 emissions that arise from the customer’s printing is verified with certificates and labels that allow the display of all activities publicly.
